And Old Ode
I found the following today when we were cleaning out bedrooms in preparation for moving people around, now that we are a family of three.
It's nice to find things like this- to remember the sweet, funny, entertaining young girls in the poem as they were then. (they still are!)
Evidently written when Smart Road had the Labor Day meeting- that would mean that was a year that Pleasant Hill hosted the two-week meeting. So this might have been written in 1993.
Wendy and Kelly’s Labor Day Weekend
By Wendy WoodyThe Labor Day meeting
Was finally at hand.
Jennifer didn’t go
But there wasn’t demandLemon drops are nice
Just don’t eat too many
Throw them out the window
And there won’t be any,We wrote notes to Amber
But she didn’t care
As a matter of fact,
She wasn’t there.Erin was there
To follow us around
We didn’t notice
She never made a sound.Erin was hyper
Callie was stressed
Wendy was calm,
And Kelly, depressed.Volleyball was fun,
Though we didn’t play
We walked and we talked
It was a rainy day.Indecipherable…
And Harold lectured long
Skating was decided,
Movies were wrong.Erin snapped a picture
Of everyone she knew
She was trying to get someone.
I’ll always wonder who.Kevin and Kyle
Serenaded us well.
Was that music?
I couldn’t tellAfter the songs,
Hardees was the place
It wasn’t uncommon
To blow water in your face.Next verse indecipherable
Jumping was done.
To a groovy beat
Even if Kelly
Had blisters on her feet.We said goodbye
To our Smart Road friends.
Would we write?
It all depends.Locking keys in a trunk
Was done with ease,
But getting them out,
Wasn’t a breeze.Purple candy
Was all Wendy got
She enjoyed it,
Because Kelly did not.The trip is over,
That is clear.
It was great,
But watch out next year!

I predict that Wendy Mae,
Will make us all proud one day!
She'll marry and have two boys and a girl
Name of Phoebe with hair that swirls!
I totally remember writing that with Wendy! Thanks for that blast from the past, LuAnn. You guys provided many rides and great times throughout my childhood!
I love it when I come across those items that for some reason I can't just seem to toss. I found some of those type of materials a couple of weeks ago when I was searching for pictures (and school newsletters when I was editor for 2 years) to take to our class reunion. (Yes, Bruce and I attended the same high school.....when he moved into our district in 8th grade I did not like him......by our senior year, we were dating.....how time changes!) But Kelly, take note: I did find items to put on a "burn pile"! Yea!
@IowaHarveys - Suzanne, I love your profile picture. It's neat to see that Blake looks so much like his grandpa! And Ginger definitely has your smile.
Oh what a doozey! Great poem. Who is Erin? Long? Hilariously clever. Looking forward to seeing your new arrangement. Is Verity going upstairs and you and Tom on first floor now?
@Kumquat62 - Verity's going in C's room, Tom will have a new office in the former V room, I will continue to have my sewing/office/toy room/guestroom in the former Sam room. Things are looking pretty spiffy!
